FORDS COLONY COUNTRY CLUB
SOCIAL COMMITTEE MINUTES
NOVEMBER 2, 2011
PRESENT: Jane Andersen, Sharon Goodrich, Dianne Harrigton,
Susan Henry, Mary Ann Hurley, Carmen Kleiser, Valerie Lamb, Carol
Maginnis, Chris Moncure, Fritz Ober, Nancy Ohlinger, Joan Olson,
Judy Rappe, Erna Rodgers, Kathy Ruszkowski, Helen VanCott, Craig
Stambaugh; and Melissa Blane, representing Management
Erna called the meeting to order at 4 P.M. The minutes of
October’s meeting were accepted as e-mailed. Erna thanked Carmen
for conducting the October meeting.
Lindsay Lindsay stopped by and introduced himself as the new Food and
Beverage Manager. He received positive feedback about the service
at the Denim and Dancing party. Noted was that the soup was served
and that a soupspoon was placed at the table rather than guests having
to take one as they served themselves. Also the handiwipes were
appreciated. Everyone enjoyed the menu—the fried chicken was great
as were the ribs and cornbread.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Wednesday, October 5: Ladies Night Out
featured country line-dancing. Mickie Decker from the FC Dance
Club instructed ladies with the help of Mary Ann, Annette, Dianne, and
Kathy.
2. Wednesday, October 12: Let’s Do Lunch
attracted three tables of ladies. We feel we need better publicity
to keep this on the calendar.
3. Thursday, October 13: Trivia Night led
by Fritz garnered terrific feedback! Many thanks, Fritz!
4. Friday, October 21: Fireside Chat:
Bob Lockwood arranged the evening with Rob Wittman as speaker.
About 80 folks attended. Good discussion and follow-up questions
as well as a good buffet. Thanks, Bob!
5. Monday, October 24: Wine Society
Tasting. Over 70 attended and there were seven new couples.
Mary Mulvihill did an excellent job with the wines. One request is
that the cheeses which are served be more specifically identified so
that guests who enjoyed them could purchase them on their own.
6. Friday, October 28: Denim, Dine, and
Dance: Terrific evening of fun and food as well as dancing.
Thanks to Mary Ann, Annette, Kathy, Dianne for organizing this and to
Judie Grablewski for letting us borrow her hay, boots, and table
decorations. Thanks to all who helped decorate.
In discussing the dance, a number of issues arose for future
consideration:
*The need for
more timely current publicity of events. We miss the table-top
reminders and golf cart lists. We’d like to see a monthly calendar
about the middle of the previous month rather than at the beginning of
the month so members can plan ahead.
· We’d like to see flyers which can be
downloaded easily and which list the date/time/price/number to call for
reservations. We’d also like to see printed posters back on the
easels and in prominent places.
· We would also like to have a bigger
dance floor so we can accommodate large turnouts.
· The heaters in the Pavilion were too hot
if you were seated nearby and not heating the area for those seated
further away. Can they be regulated?
· Erna and those interested will meet to
draw up a list of requests for improved communication next week.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Wednesday, November 2: Ladies Night
Out. Marco will demonstrate how to prepare appetizers and a
dessert. We have a full house. Need to discuss attendance
protocol regarding guests when we have limited seating.
2. Wednesday, November 9: Let’s Do Lunch.
Hopefully we will have a reminder about this in our e-mail. We do
need to publicize this as ladies forget which date is the second
Wednesday!
3. Monday, November 14: Wine Society
Tasting will feature holiday wines.
4. Wednesday, November 16: Fireside Chat speaker
is David George Ball, “The Father of the 401K.” Carmen will handle
the introductions. Mr. Ball will also bring copies of his latest
book, “A Marked Heart,” which will be available for sale and his
signing.
5. Thursday, December 1: Dinner with Jazz.
This will be a set-price menu with choices. Melissa indicated
these wil also be featured in January, February, and March.
6. Maj Jongg and Canasta continue to draw a nice
crowd. Many thanks to Valerie for organizing these.
7. Winter CW Panel Discussion/dinner
Carmen and Chris will work on this idea.
8. Reminder: CCMA/Affiniti meeting will be
Thursday, November 10. Dinner will be available following the
meeting.
9. Election results will be announced at the
CCMA meeting. For those currently on the Social Committee, please
let Erna know if you plan to remain on the committee. Also be thinking
of new people to join us!
10. Another topic we raised was how to integrate all the Social
Members into Club Activities. Should we create a “New Member
Welcome Committee” to call new folks and offer to answer any questions
or further encourage them to attend social function? To be
continued……
The meeting was adjourned at 5 P.M.
PLEASE NOTE: NEXT MEETING: Wednesday, December 7 at 3: 30 PM
to accommodate those attending the Wine Society Christmas Dinner the
same evening.
Ford’s Colony Country Club
Social Committee
Annual Report: November
10, 2011
The goal of
the Social Committee is to plan and execute a variety of social
activities, beyond golf, to attract members to the Club.
We have held
Dance Parties with Dinner in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. These
have featured a disc jockey and a themed party.
We held Fireside Chats during the Fall and Winter months. The next
one will be Wednesday, November 16. The speaker will be David
Ball, the father of the 401K. During the winter we also held
Bingo.
Thanks to Valerie Lamb, we now have ladies playing Maj Jongg and
Canasta. On the second Wednesday of the month, we have Let’s Do
Lunch and that attracts many ladies who are members of the FC Garden
Club in addition to Club members.
The Wine
Society meets monthly for either a tasting or a set three-course dinner
with wines.
We also
introduced a Men’s Night Out in the form of Scotch or Bourbon night.
In addition to the drinks, a delectable selection of hors d’oeurves are
featured.
In October
Fritz Ober and his committee did a terrific job for our Trivia Night.
Perhaps our
most success has been Ladies Night Out, held the first Wednesday of each
month from 5-7 P.M. In addition to specialty drinks, we feature a
fun event; from A to Z. Attendance was at an all-time high in
September when 120 women participated in an Accessories Fashion Show.
That number surpassed the 85 women who took part in Zumba.
I’d like to
thank my terrific Social Committee members who make all of this
possible; and, I’d like to invite the rest of you to join us for next
year!

One last item
we need to do is review our FCCC Member/Guest Social and Dining
Attendance Policy so that Club members are not shut out of events due to
other members bringing non-member guests.
