FCCC Golf Associations

Ladies' 18-Hole Golf Association

The following is information regarding the importance of the LGA 18 in the life of the FCCC: Group is 20 years old and the current membership is 114 in two divisions.

Plays twice weekly in an organized play day shotgun on Tuesday and a more informal “practice” with tee times on Thursday.

Group has three major tournaments, the Partner‟s Tournament, the President‟s Cup (formerly called Ruth Ward), and the Trifecta.

In addition there is a Ringer Tournament that runs season long, Match Play, the new Yorktown Stabbleford Tournament, the Eve „n‟ the Rib Tournament, Sadie Hawkins Tournament, LGA-MGA Challenge and the LGA Member-Guest.

The group hosts a bi-annual Invitational and participates in Home and Home Tournaments, the Williamsburg Cup, the Tidewater Golf Association and the Peninsula Golf Association.

The LGA 18 is well represented in club tournaments such as the Club Championship, and the member-member Pink Cardigan Classic.

The LGA 18 participates in several charitable endeavors including the President‟s Charity that is determined by each President, The Rally for the Cure, a club sponsored tournament that is organized and run jointly by the LGA 18 and LGA 9 groups. In the fall, the group provided school supplies to needy area children through the Apple Tree program. In addition, both groups organize a winter Holiday luncheon that last year provided 150 toys and 140 bags of groceries to charitable organizations in the community.

Under the auspices of the National Golf Course Owners Association and in conjunction with the JCC Recreation Department, the LGA 18 and LGA 9 organizes and participates in the two day Take Your Daughter to the Course program that provides golf instruction to girls on the first day, and a nine hole tournament and luncheon for the women golfers and their daughters, granddaughters, daughter-in-laws, etc. on the second day.

Last year (2009) 80 ladies chaired or worked on committees to make all of these activities viable.

The LGA 18 provides a full range of opportunities for the full-golf women of FCCC to take part in athletic, social and charitable endeavors and it is an integral part of the club experience.

Ladies' 9-Hole Golf Association

The Ladies 9 Hole Golf Association (known as the LGA-9) was created in 1991 for ladies who like to play 9 holes in a fun and low stress environment.  Full Golf members of FCCC may join at any time if they pay the dues and have a USGA 9 hole handicap of 36 or less.

During the season, qualified 9 Holer members can participate in regular stroke play on Tuesdays (tee times) and organized games/tournaments on Thursdays (shotgun starts).  In addition to the LGA-9 Championship, Ringer, and Match Play tournaments, the LGA-9 offers a variety of golf/social/charitable events, such as:

Since 1992, the LGA-9 has also offered a unique one to two year program called the 4 Tees for members with no handicap or a handicap of 37 or higher.  This structured introduction to golf includes clinics led by the Pro staff and coaching provided by volunteers from both the LGA-9 and the LGA-18.  4 Tees are encouraged to improve their skills so they can achieve and sustain a handicap of 36 or less and “graduate” to the 9 Holers.

As of October 2010, the LGA-9 has a total of 118 members, 14 of which are 4 Tees.  The group is well organized with 5 elected officers and 20 standing committee and special event volunteer chairpersons.  Ladies interested in joining may contact Nancy Vignolo, VP/Membership, at nvignolo@cox.net.
